Patient safety and high quality care are priorities at Massachusetts hospitals, and Bay State hospitals are national leaders in transparent and voluntary reporting of patient quality and safety information. In collaboration with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH), an annual statewide hospital summary of healthcare associated infections in acute care hospitals is presented, as well as hospital specific reports.

Massachusetts Department of Public Health -- Flu Update March 2019

*Influenza-like illness (ILI, defined by fever >100F and cough and/or sore throat), as reported by Massachusetts sentinel surveillance sites
Figure 3 shows the intensity of reported ILI activity in Massachusetts by region. The activity level for each region (and associated color) is in relation to a baseline ILI activity level for that region. Differences in activity may reflect variation in the size and type of patient population served by reporters in that region. Figure 3 shows that all seven regions of the state are reporting decreased ILI activity compared to last week; however, ILI activity remains elevated and consistent with what is normally seen at this time of year.
